Canada Day is almost upon us, and Toronto is gearing up for a full day of celebrations.
This year, the holiday falls on Tuesday, July 1, giving locals a great excuse to soak up the summer weather and join in on the festivities.
The city will be a hive of excitement with outdoor events, live performances, and fireworks displays lighting up the night sky.
But while there’s plenty to enjoy, keep in mind that Canada Day is a federal statutory holiday in Ontario — which means many major stores and services will be closed.
That said, not everything will be off-limits. Select grocery stores will remain open for those last-minute essentials.

- City of Toronto: Most City of Toronto services will be closedon Canada Day.
- Garbage collection and recycling: Drop-off depots and transfer stations will be open. There will be no impact on regular services and collections.
Free Canada Day events
- Amesbury Park in North York will host a Canada Day fireworks display from 10 p.m. to 10:15 p.m.
- Ashbridges Bay Park at The Beaches will host a fireworks show from 10 p.m. to 10:15 p.m.
- Centennial Park in Etobicoke will have a fireworks show to conclude the Toronto Ribfest from 10 p.m. to 10:15 p.m.
- The Harbourfront Centre is hosting an all-day Canada Day celebration by the lake. There will be live music and 100% Canadian goods. Its fireworks show will be on from 10:45 p.m. to 11 p.m.
- Mel Lastman Square in North York will have a Canada Day celebration starting from noon. It’ll be a day full of music, entertainment, food, and fireworks. The fireworks show will take place from 10 p.m. to 10:15 p.m.
- Milliken Park in Scarborough will have a fireworks show from 10 p.m. to 10:15 p.m.
- Stan Wadlow Park in East York will have a fireworks show from 10 p.m. to 10:15 p.m.
