Caitlyn Jenner’s manager, ‘I Am Cait’ star was 29

Sophia Hutchins, Caitlyn Jenner‘s manager and close friend who appeared in the reality star’s E! show I Am Cait, has died, PEOPLE confirmed. She was 29. 

Hutchins was operating an ATV down a street near Jenner’s Malibu home on Wednesday morning when she hit the bumper of a moving car, reported TMZ, citing local law enforcement and family sources. The impact of the collision sent her and the ATV over the shoulder of the street and down a 350-foot ravine, per the outlet. 

Hutchins was pronounced dead at the scene, TMZ reported. The two passengers in the vehicle the buisnesswoman struck were reportedly not injured in the incident. 

Representatives for Jenner, the Los Angeles Police Department, and the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department did not immediately respond to Entertainment Weekly‘s request for more information.

Hutchins, who was transgender like Jenner, served as the CEO and director of the Caitlyn Jenner Foundation, an organization that aims to promote equality for and fight discrimination against the transgender community. She first met Jenner through their hairstylists in 2015, and they became fast friends, with Hutchins appearing on multiple episodes of Jenner’s E! docuseries, I Am Cait, which ran for two seasons in 2015 and 2016.

The Pepperdine grad would go on to move in with Jenner in 2017, and the pair were living together as recently as 2020. Hutchins also attended several Kardashian-Jenner family events over the years, including Kylie Jenner‘s daughter Stormi’s first birthday in 2019.

Speaking on the Juicy Scoop podcast in 2020, Hutchins described her and Jenner’s relationship as “very parental” and “protective.”

“We’re family,” she added. “It’s an interesting family situation. All of my family is in Seattle. I didn’t have family here. I was thinking I would move to New York, and Caitlyn was like, ‘Work here, live here.'”
