The House has started voting on President Trump’s “big, beautiful bill” after 29 hours of debate, which includes a marathon eight-plus-hour speech from House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.).
Jeffries’s eight hours and 44 minutes surpassed former Speaker Kevin McCarthy’s (R-Calif.) record for the longest House floor speech, 8 hours and 32 minutes.
The speech was the only thing holding up Republicans from a final vote.
House Republicans early Thursday morning advanced the measure, teeing up a final vote after a marathon day of negotiations and a dramatic overnight vote. It was the second overnight session for Congress in a handful of days.
Elsewhere, Trump will join first lady Melania Trump in meeting Thursday with former Israeli hostage Edan Alexander. He’ll then fly to Iowa, where he’ll kick off the nation’s 250th birthday celebration with a speech at the state fairgrounds.
