This new Lotto 6/49 winner in Canada won $1 million with a ticket he got at a grocery store.
He purchased the ticket on a whim because his son wanted coffee!
It was recently announced that Burnaby resident Han Sim won the $1 million Gold Ball prize in the Lotto 6/49 draw on July 5, 2025.
The winning ticket was bought at the Save-On-Foods grocery store inside Madison Centre on Lougheed Highway in Burnaby.
For that draw, the Lotto 6/49 winning number was 13998426-14.
Sim’s son wanted to get a coffee, so he went with his son to Save-On-Foods and decided to buy a Lotto 6/49 ticket at the store.
That’s also where Sim found out that the ticket he purchased on a whim had won him $1 million.
He was grocery shopping at the store when he looked up the winning numbers and saw that his ticket matched the winner.
Then, he went to check his ticket with the retailer to make sure and realized he actually had just won a million dollars.
Sim was most excited to share the news of this win with his wife.
“She was still sleeping,” he said. “She couldn’t believe it.”
Then, he told his two sons and daughter-in-law that he had won and that they should go to Harrison Hot Springs to celebrate.
Sim already has plans for his $1 million Lotto 6/49 win, which include going on a family holiday and helping his sons with their mortgages.
“I think it will feel more real once I deposit [the cheque] at the bank,” he said.

There are two multimillion-dollar prizes available in every Lotto 6/49 draw.
With the Classic Jackpot, six numbers from one to 49 are drawn, and you can win the $5 million jackpot if you match all six numbers.
Each Lotto 6/49 play includes a unique 10-digit Gold Ball draw number for the Gold Ball Jackpot.
A winning number is drawn from all selections for each draw. When a winning number is drawn, a separate Gold Ball draw determines if the prize is the Gold Ball Jackpot or $1 million.
If the Gold Ball is drawn, the ticket with the winning number scores the Gold Ball Jackpot.
If one of the white balls is drawn, the ticket with the winning number gets the guaranteed $1 million prize.
So, in the draw on July 5, Sim won $1 million with his Lotto 6/49 ticket because his number and a white ball were drawn.
