Port Elgin is a hidden gem, boasting beautiful shores and an endless supply of small-town charm. Located about 3 hours away from Toronto, the beach town is an idyllic summer escape with a peaceful atmosphere, charming downtown, and some of the prettiest sunsets in Ontario.
According to the town’s website, the “white sand beaches and our harbour are one of Ontario’s best-kept vacation secrets.”
The Main Beach stretches for 3 kilometres and features a wheelchair-accessible paved walkway. You can lounge on the powdery, white-sand shores and build sand castles for an idyllic beach escape.
Or, you can head to some of the other, quieter beaches, such as Gobles Grove or Shipley Beach.
In addition to swimming, Port Elgin offers a range of attractions and activities to enjoy.
You can explore the downtown, which is dotted with sun-filled patios, beachy shops and cafes, or head to the farmers’ market, where you’ll find a range of local goods.
Bring some comfy shoes! Port Elgin is known as “Ontario’s hiking heaven” and offers many scenic trails to explore. You can cycle your way around the area or explore on foot.
Nearby, you’ll find MacGregor Point Provincial Park, which offers additional trails as well as another beach.
